Privacy Policy — LLT Caption Tap
Last updated: 30 October 2026
LLT Caption Tap is a browser extension for Chrome (and Chromium-based browsers) and Firefox. It reads the caption line that a YouTube page is already displaying and passes that text to the Live Local Translator desktop application running on the same computer, so the application can translate the line and show the translation in its own window or overlay.
What the extension handles
- The caption text currently displayed on the page. It is read from a page you already have open, and only while you are on a YouTube page with captions shown.
- The page address, so the desktop application can tell which video the line belongs to.
Where that text goes
Only to the desktop application on the same computer. The hand-off uses the browser's own native messaging channel, which starts a small local host program, and the host passes each line to the application over a local named pipe. The text is not sent to us, to any server, or to any third party. The extension makes no network requests of its own.
What the extension does not do
- No account, sign-in or identifiers.
- No analytics, telemetry, crash reporting or advertising.
- No cookies set by the extension, and no reading of cookies.
- No collection of browsing history, form data, passwords, comments, titles or any other page content.
- No sale or sharing of data with anyone.
- No remote code: everything the extension runs is inside the package you installed.
Retention
The extension itself stores nothing. Caption lines are handed over and forgotten. The only copy that persists is whatever the desktop application keeps locally for its own history and settings, and that stays on your computer.
Your control
You can remove the extension at any time from your browser's extensions page; nothing else needs to be undone. The desktop application keeps working without it, using screen recognition.
Firefox-specific declaration
The Firefox add-on declares data collection permissions as websiteContent: the caption text is read from the page and handed to the local application. It never leaves the device.
